Just about 20 kilometres from Shillong
toward Cherapunjee you can enjoy watching an old Khasi Tradition of Iron
Smiting. The khasi's were well known for trading their iron and
metal works with the people from the plains for cloths and other items.
Hence historically the Khasi's were not traditional weavers - they were
good at other trades.

Interesting and unique events occur throughout the
Khasi Hills - such as Bull Fighting. Two Bulls are brought out
to the field and allowed to do whatever they do naturally (fight) -
the one who runs away off the field is declared the looser. |

Just drive through the
country side and you will come across ancient Stone monoliths put up n
olden days by the Khasi forefathers as memories of persons or events. |

A visit to Market places in village areas is a must
if you want to experience the local flavours and culture. Khasi
hills villages run on 8 day cycles for market days - so there is
always a village close by having a market. |

The scenery is spectacular all over the Khasi Hills
and not a long distance away from Shillong - there are places you can
